Clevedon Forbes

Clevedon Forbes Fund is...

A Christian charity which makes grants for individuals of limited means who need a break from illness or trauma. The potential for change must be evident from the background or care plan for the individual in order to meet the convalescence emphasis of the charity.

Grants are also available to those caring for someone who is sick or disabled whose need for a break will receive separate consideration.

Applications are accepted from professionals in the Statutory and Voluntary Care sector on behalf of their clients, with no cultural, religious or ethnic limits. The Fund Director may wish to meet personally with each referee when details of the case would be discussed in order to gain maximum benefit from any grant within the strategy of care. Interviews for the purpose are held at the referee’s base and appointments for the visit may be made by telephone on 01275 341777.

The intended use of the grant funds will be reviewed by the Trustees in the context of the Christian foundation of the charity.

Grants for an individual are unrepeatable within three years and the purchase of capital goods is outside the scope of the Fund

In 1881, the Rev. Edward Forbes, Vicar of Christchurch Clevedon, established a Convalescent Home in memory of his first wife. His desire to share his experience and love of the Lord Jesus Christ with others went hand in hand with practical care. In 1990 the Trustees decided that the Founder's intention could best be served by selling the convalescent home and establishing the Fund.

It is the hope of the trustees that each beneficiary might consider their personal response to God's love as shown in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. A Gospel is therefore sent to each recipient of a Grant.
